130 Years of Legacy

For well over a century, Pine Brook Manor has been a place for gathering, craftsmanship, and renewal. Established in the original town of Rio in 1895 and preserved through generations, its story continues today as a one-of-a-kind estate experience.

1895

“Pine Park Cottage” Opens

Peter and Mary Dunwald establish a Victorian boarding house, advertising to summer guests escaping the city. It quickly becomes a beloved retreat near the end of the Port Jervis rail line. It was soon well known for its beautiful grounds and “excellent table”, as an early proponent of the modern concept of farm-to-table dining.

Sawmill & Woodshop Built

The family adds a sawmill and workshop, creating a hub of craftsmanship that supports the local economy and their growing construction ventures. This also begins an era of invention with multiple patents being developed on the property.

Family Home Constructed

A new Arts-and-Crafts-style bungalow is built to house the next generation of Dunwalds, showing the family's expanding presence on the property. Over the next 70 years the family continued to farm, live, work, and gather on the estate as the boarding house also transitioned to more private use, while the sawmill and workshops supported construction and farm projects.

Restoration & National Register Listing

The Feasley family began restoration work in 2013, thoughtfully transforming the estate into the inn and gathering place it has become. In 2015, the Department of Interior and National Park Service recognized the estate for its historical and architectural significance, honoring its Victorian-era roots, craftsmanship, and contribution to the local tourism tradition.

Today

A Revitalized Retreat For All

Today, Pine Brook Manor once again welcomes guests as a thoughtfully restored inn and event venue. The Inn offers eight king and queen rooms across two restored buildings. A new event hall was constructed using lumber reclaimed from the original barn that once stood onsite, combining heritage elements with modern comforts. Together they provide a timeless setting for weddings, gatherings, and peaceful retreats immersed in nature.

Continuing the Legacy

Colin and Indiana are the husband-and-wife team behind Pine Brook Manor. Their shared vision is rooted in storytelling, design, and the art of creating meaningful experiences. Years of traveling and discovering places with soul and character have shaped their perspective and inspired how they bring people together here.

Today, Pine Brook Manor stands as a living chapter in a much larger story. Colin and Indiana are devoted to preserving its spirit while welcoming new moments of celebration, rest, and renewal for generations to come. They look forward to helping each guest bring their own story to life here.

When they found Pine Brook Manor, they knew it was more than a home. It was a story still unfolding. Every space carries the mark of those who built and restored it before them, and now they have the privilege of continuing that tradition.
